Artist Bios: Michael McLaughlin MICHAEL McLAUGHLIN When not searching through piles of sound files, Michael performs, composes and arranges for the Shirim Klezmer Orchestra and Naftule’s Dream. Most recently Shirim has collaborated with children’s author Maurice Sendak to create the timely classic Pincus and the Pig, a klezmer version of the even timelier Peter and the Wolf. Michael also works with NPR’s Sound and Spirit host Ellen Kushner performing the live, The Golden Dreydle: A Klezmer Nutcracker and Esther: The Feast of Masks. Michael’s compositions have been performed by many local organiz ations including The Boston Modern Orchestra Project and The Huntington Brass Quintet. He received a 2001 Mass Cultural Council Fellowship Award in Composition, two residencies through the American Composers Forum and an award from the St. Botolph Club. He is a member of the new music group The Socially Awkward Composers. N (Bonaparte) is Michael’s fourth production with Pilgrim Theatre. He was sound designer for Faust 2002, and musical performer in both Letters from Sarajevo and The House Not Touch By Death. Michael will soon hold a DMA in Composition from New England Conservatory, if he ever writes his dissertation. |
